  • Background

    Extra care living enables older people to live independently in high-quality, purpose-built apartment buildings with a range of on-site facilities while having ready access to care if required.

    The Government is keen to support extra care living and through our Markey Fund, we are investing £15 million in a project to establish an extra care scheme in Cheltenham. Called Honeybourne Gate, it is the only development of its kind in the town.

    We are working with more than 25 different investors who will become leaseholders of the completed apartments and are expected to see annual returns of between 20 and 25%.

    Project

    Construction work on the five-storey building consisting of 54 one and two-bedroom extra care apartments will start in October 2013 and is scheduled for completion in early 2015.

    Carried out by Markey Construction, Honeybourne Gate will include landscaped grounds, under-croft car parking, a hairdressers, coffee shop and a convenience store for use by tenants.
