• Leading social housing developer, Markey Construction, has started work on a £1.7 million eco-friendly housing scheme at Staunton in north Gloucestershire.

Built on behalf of Cottsway Housing Association, the development consists of 15 homes, most of which have either two or three bedrooms.

Designed to meet the latest energy efficiency standards and scheduled for completion in November 2013, all properties will have rainwater harvesting and air source heat pumps that absorb heat from the outside air which is then used in radiators or underfloor heating to provide hot water. Air source heat pumps have a beneficial impact on the environment because even though they need electricity to run, the heat they extract from the air is constantly renewed naturally.

  • The Staunton scheme is the latest in a string of Gloucestershire developments built for Cottsway Housing Association by Markey Construction and recent projects include a £1.1m scheme at Wyman’s Brook, a £1.3m development at Hester’s Way Road in Cheltenham and 13 properties on Over Old Road in Hartpury.

Markey Construction’s Managing Director Richard Dudgeon said: “We’ve got a great relationship with Cottsway and regard them as a true partner.

“Within the industry, we’re known for our attention to detail and added-value approach. We believe in working in partnership with our clients and it’s these attributes that have helped us cement our relationship with Cottsway.”

It’s a view that’s shared by Adrian Miller, Cottsway’s Head of Development, who said: “We are very pleased with this well-designed and sustainable development in Staunton. It is the latest of a number of rural schemes we have developed in Gloucestershire in partnership with Markey over the past five years.

These 15 new homes will help meet the need for affordable rural housing for families with a local connection who are otherwise unable to afford to purchase or rent on the open market.”
